CNN reported that Dr. Chris Murray, the director of the University of Washington’s Institute for Help Metrics and Evaluation, has said yesterday…
“It’s a safer strategy to get the number of infections in the community down to a really low level, and then testing and contact tracing and isolation can work.”
Sounds reasonable…what could go wrong?
Well…His team said Georgia should not reopen again until JUNE 28th.
If Georgia and the rest of the nation remain in “lockdown” for two more months, we’re going to reopen to something akin to a post-apocalyptic scenario. Just look at what is already happening with jobs, supply chains, key indicators like the oil crises, and so on.
This is a matter that we SHOULD NOT JUST BE LEAVING TO THE SCIENTISTS. Economists are just as important! Medical health experts can only see the Novel Coronavirus. They fail to consider the cost in human suffering and even lives resulting from keeping the economy intubated for another 2 months. They appear to have no conception of the economic/social/health consequences of another 2 months of lockdown.
We need to get things going again and we need to exercise some common sense. Masks and social distancing in public and those at risk for severe Covid 19 should remain in isolation. Instead of these never-ending, economy killing lockdowns, we should have public education campaigns about how to keep both yourself and others safe as we return to work. Apart from the elderly, there is a reason the least educated portion of the population is the hardest hit in most places.
