“…I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power. Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ…”
—Ephesians 3:7-8
Paul didn’t brag or boast about his academic achievements or about how many cities he had preached the gospel in or in how many churches he established or how many miracles he did or in how he had declared Christ at the Parthenon. Such talk was foolishness to him (2 Corinthians 11:17).
When God turns a man over to his pride, the man refutes himself.
“Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain. Therefore let no man glory in men.”
—1 Corinthians 3:18-21a
I plead with you my brethren, learn how pride pollutes everything. The most glorious truth in the mouth of the arrogant is a diamond in a boar’s snout.
“God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.”
—1 Peter 5:5
“Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit?
there is more hope of a fool than of him.”
—Proverbs 26:12
That Christians suffer such arrogant men is an inditement…
“For ye suffer fools gladly, seeing ye yourselves are wise.”
—2 Corinthians 11:19
