It is stunning how leftists who speak of “tolerance” and “diversity” limit such things to people who agree with them. The hypocrisy is absolutely stunning, but such hypocrisy has been seen many times before in history.
It happens in EVERY generation of man. Consider the Pledge of Allegiance first written in 1892. It boldly declares, “with liberty and justice for all.” In such a nation of “liberty” and “justice” why did blacks suffer segregation, lynchings, and victimization by a political party through the welfare system that would rip black families apart and put them back on the plantation in the form of the projects? The new crops harvested are votes to keep certain people in power. Promised liberty, they are kept in bondage to a system that merely feigns interest in their plight.
The list of social ills and injustice is stunning and universal. EVERYONE can rightly claim to be a victim in one way or another (yes, even white men!) Bitterness and sin blinds us to the injustices of those who are not on our side of the aisle.
“Social justice” is a myth because mankind is fallen and sinful. Once the oppressed take power, they inevitably become the oppressors. It has always been this way (with few exceptions) and will be until the coming of Christ.
In a fallen world, true justice is a mirage. The worst abusers are simply the ones who hold power because sin holds everyone in thrall…whether it be men, women, blacks, whites, communists, capitalists, etc.
This is not to say that all abuses are equal. For example, far greater abuses tend to happen under communism than capitalism. Blacks suffered far more injustice under slavery and Jim Crow than the sorts of injustices faced by whites in those times (which I also have to acknowledge is a massive understatement!). Whites are presently facing far more racial injustice in South Africa today than blacks. “Social justice” under any system is never quite attainable.
What then is the answer? Should we just give up? For the world I have no solution other than to repent and believe the gospel. Come and sit at Jesus’ feet and follow Him.
For Christians, what we should be seeking is reformation according to Biblical truth and Christian unity in (Biblical) truth and (Biblical) love.
Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; that they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
—John 17:2-23
If the church gave herself to the pursuit of oneness and love in the truths of the Scriptures, not only would many social ills vanish AMONG US, but the world would see a powerful sign that Jesus is Lord, just as he prayed in his high priestly prayer.
“Social justice” today is a political movement. It simply replaces one corrupt power with another and in our day the new power is utterly antiChrist. Let’s pray and seek “Christian unity”. Let’s pray the Holy Spirit work to heal the ills of society as we find them WITHIN THE CHURCH. May the inside be cleansed (the church ) that the outside (the world) would know the high king of heaven.
Totally agree. The only way we can have justice and unity is at the foot of the cross.
There’s some sense in which the world is pressing Christians into its mold by forcing us to deal with issues the world sees as unjust (like the supposed existence of racism in the USA today) and this is forcing Christians to take sides.
But Christianity, as a rule, is counter-culture.
Christians see real injustices in our society, which our society currently has no problem with, such as abortion on demand.
I’ve seen much progress on racial issues during my lifetime (1959-present), and I don’t think we have a problem with racism today. Certainly not a systemic one. Not like we used to. And we did used to. But those who are younger, and the lying media, want to act like it’s 1920 or something, and force us to admit our racism, which is something I am not doing. I’ve never been a racist, and I’m not a racist just because I’m white. So I am not buying-in to the world’s latest blame game and guilt trip.
As a Christian, I have protested unjust war and abortion, without becoming a leftist SJW.
