You don’t have to look very long to find a comment like this…
You were worth so much to God that He was willing to die to redeem you, so you could be in His family.
The truth is, you are not special. There is nothing about you that is worthy of God’s love. God doesn’t love you because of “your great potential”, he loves you in spite of you.
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
—Romans 5:8
It’s not that God loves you less, quite to the contrary. God loves you “according to the good purpose of his will” (Ephesians 1:9) and in Christ (1 Timothy 1:14). God’s love for you was never dependent upon anything about you. How amazing is that!? That the infinite creator God, loves you and that love has absolutely nothing to do with you or your personal potential. There is then nothing you can do, oh Christian, to make God love you any more or any less.
God does not love you because you are special. You are special because he loves you. Now reciprocate that love by living in a manner that is worthy of this great love that is lavished upon you.
I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called
—Ephesians 1:4
For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you…that ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God”
—Colossians 1:9b-10
we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children, that ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.
—2 Thessalonians 2:11-12
And finally…you are going to mess up. You are even going to find areas of your life were you are quite worthless in living up to this high calling. The good news is, God doesn’t love you any less. Ask for forgiveness and press on in his love.
My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: and he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
