It’s Monday morning and this week is going to be filled with, well, stuff. There are life experiences in front of each one of us and none of us knows exactly what is going to happen (Proverbs 27:1). It’s a different week, but praise God we have the same Christ.
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
—Hebrew 13:8
Not knowing tomorrow but knowing the Christ of tomorrow is incredibly comforting. Life is full of “good things” and “bad things”. The reality of the unchanging Christ allows us to think upon the good things and trust him when the bad come our way.
Not only is this a blessing to us, it should fundamentally direct the way we think. Do we dwell upon the bad things (that may or may not happen), or do we dwell upon the good things that God has in store for us, especially in the world to come?
If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
—Colossians 3:1-4
If you are like me, you struggle worrying about many things that never even happen. What a waste. The good things that God has in store for every Christian in Christ are a certainty. We should ever discipline our minds to think upon these things. How we think on Monday, determines who we are on Friday.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Philippians 4:8
