“Unto you therefore which believe he [Jesus] is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.”
—1 Peter 2:7-8
The knowledge of God in Christ is priceless to the true believer. Nothing in all creation can compare. Believers hear the unadulterated word of God and, by the work of the Holy Spirit, say amen! [it is certain!].
Those outside of Christ, being left in their sin, should God not open their hearts, (Acts 16:14) find the the teachings of Christ to be an offense and/or utterly foolish.
Any gospel seasoned for a worldly palate is a twisted gospel.
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
— 1 John 5:4-5
The world will receive a twisted, emaciated, man-centered gospel…but that is not the gospel of Jesus Christ. They will not hear the true gospel apart from divine grace.
What about you? Do you hear Christ? Are you seeking to conform your life to whatever light you obtain from the Holy Scriptures? Do you even want to learn ‘hard things’ from the Scriptures? Do you desire to be corrected from the word of God? Or do you merely seek confirmation for what you already believe or want to do?
Are you of Christ or are you of the world?
And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
—1 John 2:3
